On behalf of the Banking Education Committee, Mr Macalincag, reported on the following :
Myanmar inaugurated the Myanmar Institute of Banking (MIB) in Yangon in November 2007. The first batch of students will be completing their diploma in banking soon. The registration for the second batch of intake is expected to be completed in end November 2008. Arrangement has also been made to open a MIB branch in Mandalay to conduct the first batch of Diploma in Banking course commencing sometime in November 2008.
Laos had converted its Banking Training Centre into a Banking Institute. It had upgraded its diploma course to Bachelor Degree and Master Degree courses.
Thailand had assisted to arrange to conduct trainings on SMEs Credit Analysis and Marketing for members of the Lao Bankers Association on 2-6 October 2008.
ABA had been assisting Vietnam and to a lesser extent, Cambodia, to source for speakers to conduct short term training courses for its members.
Malaysia, through IBBM, agreed to upload its website to avail their training courses and syllabi to NBAs.
The concept of video conferencing and online courses were floated and well received by all the members. The Ateneo/BAPIB volunteered to help develop an online course to offer to the various NBAs by 2009. The Honorary Advisor highlighted the high cost of online training for the newer members and suggested to use VCDs or DVDs as alternative medium.
