Yangon, also known as Rangoon, is a former capital of Myanmar (Burma). It is the largest city in Myanmar and an industrial/commercial centre of the country. Yangon is located in the southern part of the country and is also the transportation hub of the country. The city was founded in the early 11th century (circa 1028-1043) and was a small fishing village centered about the golden-spired Shwe Dagon Pagoda. In March 2006, the capital of Myanmar was relocated to Naypidaw.
